Hunger, Lock-down, Pakistan and Corona

The issue of Corona is a global pandemic and it is affecting all the states but the struggle of developed and the developing states is varied greatly. Being a developing state, Pakistan is struggling very hard to overcome this issue of Corona. Government is using multiple strategies to overcome this issue. A big issue Pakistan is facing these days is the issue of hunger as said by Miguel that “All sorrows are less with bread”

Majority of people in Pakistan are poor and they are striving hard to achieve bread. Being an Islamic state Pakistan is having a great system of charity but this is not enough to meet the needs of people. This is the main reason that the government has announced to lift lock-down in Pakistan. The government has lifted lock-down to ease the people in earning bread but the ignorant people of Pakistan have created a serious situation in the markets. It is rightly said in context of Pakistan that Ignorance is a bliss. People in Pakistan are trying to ask stupid questions from each other that have you seen any patient of Corona, Corona is a myth, Corona is a terror created by America and China and many more like these. People are not considering their lives precious and then comes some other people who are not having resources to live and therefore, they are ready to die considering that their death will resolve their issues of hunger.

In Pakistan there are 3 classes of people. The upper class or elites who have a lot of money and are able to maintain lifestyle even in lock down, the lower class who have no issue in begging even before lock down and therefore they are also not affected by the lock down. Now the third category is the middle class, these are the people who are working in offices on daily, weekly and monthly wages. This is the most affected class by the lock down. They are not able to earn bread for their family neither they can beg because they are considered as respected people of society. If you'll ask these people about 2+2 they will reply 4 pieces of bread 😥

Suzanne Collins has rightly presented the middle class by saying that “The heat of the bread burned into my skin, but I clutched it tighter, clinging to life.” Government has eased lock down for such people but the other two classes took benefit of the ease. The people who have money are rushing in the stores and shops of branded clothes. It is the mindset of the people that branded clothes are a status symbol and this concept has engulfed the business of small shopkeepers and also engulfed the additional amount which could be given as charity to the poor. This mindset needs to be changed and the middle class families and the poor should be supported by some other means because for middle class families their prestige is everything. They will never come out to beg rather they will prefer to die with hunger. So, it is the responsibility of everyone to help others and to not hurt their ego and prestige.

It is not only the responsibility of teachers and mothers to educate and guide but it is also an equal responsibility of the societal norms. The teachers who themselves are wearing the branded dresses are teaching the students to be simple and to help others. It must be noted that the kids tend to mimic your actions they do not follow your hollow examples. The teachers and the parents who tend to play their role in this hard time should play a role model by opting simplicity in their daily life. Therefore, this issue of hunger can be resolved and the people must support government in this regard by not wasting the resources. It is rightly said by Mahatma Gandhi that

“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.”
